The yellow-footed green pigeon (Treron phoenicoptera), also known as yellow-legged green pigeon, is a common species of green pigeon found in the Indian subcontinent. It is the state bird of Maharashtra.Β In Marathi it is called Hariyal. The species feeds on fruit, including many species of Ficus. They forage in flocks. In the early morning they are often seen sunning on the tops of emergent trees in dense forest areas. They especially are found sitting in couples on tree branches.

Ohh I never seen bird like this. Picture could have been more clear though π
Yeah! Picture could have been clearer. Still getting my hands steady with the camera. π
Hmm.. good to hear that! Expecting nice shots in near future from you π
Thank you! π
I have never seen them … they look so beautiful !! Wow π
Thanks Rajlakshmi! They seem to have come here in the last few months only. I hadn’t seen them earlier.
I didn’t know such a specie existed. Great shot! Thanks for sharing π
Even I didn’t know the first time I spotted it outside my kitchen window. I had check with my birdwatcher friends. π
I live near Karnala Bird Sanctuary in Panvel. Usually myriad birds visit the jungle near our home, which is close to the sanctuary, but I’ve never seen these birds! Not that I’m much of an ornithologist! Nice clicks!
Thanks Rakesh! I first spotted them outside my kitchen windows and it felt like alien invasion. Now we are good friends. They pose and I click! π
Ever paused in your tracks to think how lucky you are, ma’am? π
Thanks for loving all the birds and animals! We need people like you!
Godspeed to you and your beautiful friends!
